Memory Oil Lamp

Looks great but doesn’t work well at all and no contact from the ‘support team’

I am impressed. All moving parts have tight tolerances. Excellent for backpacking. Small and light weight. Will not rust. Does not leak when moved around. I bought the storm lantern style, and it does stay lit in a 7 mph wind as advertised. Unlike other oil lanterns this size, the filler cap fits and seals perfectly. The small globe would be difficult to break. The flame spreader works beautifully to produce a 1 in. X 3/4 in. (2.5 cm X 1.9 cm) flame--impressive for a 1/4 in (6 mm) wick, even when burning diesel fuel or other heavy oil. Does not require precise trimming. I let the lantern burn out, and that trims the wick perfectly and burns off any crusty residue. I get 13 hours burn time using diesel when set on high and twice that on low, so it provides heat all night in a small tent. Expensive, but I expect this lantern to last the rest of my life.

The lamp, which was delivered quickly by ThousWinds, is of very good quality. Unfortunately, it flickers very badly after 10 minutes. This can be easily remedied with a small ring (approx. 5mm high) that is placed around the wick guide. Now the lamp burns beautifully and I am very impressed with the quality. I would definitely order again....

This is a Super little lantern but there is a well known problem due to its small size. The wick tube overheads after a short time which causes the flame to grow and flicker badly if not adjusted.

There is a simple solution though. Cut a thin strip of aluminium foil and wind it around the protruding part of the wick tube at the top to increase its thermal mass. This stabilises the flame and it will work well with this modification.

For a more robust result, I added a small piece of brass tube, squashed to shape, to hold the foil in place.

Shipping time was fast and everything came as expected. Quality of build is good but not sure if it will rust over time. I got the vintage oil lamp and the raiload oil lamp.

I ordered the small paraffin lamp "memory". Good product and fast delivery.

It's a modern remake of the atom 75 from WW2. My family's first reaction was to laugh at it just because of It's small stature. However once lit they very quickly discovered it is a fully working lamp that gives a pleasant low light that the eye is drawn to.

I have shopped at ThousWinds several times now. The quality of the lanterns and glasses is just perfect!
The overheating and flickering that other buyers have observed can easily be solved by using a slightly thicker wick!

The lantern is well made. Shipping to Germany was very good and fast.

Super Passform

The lantern is a blast. Very good material and execution. The only exception / downside is a very known behavior of this small lamps. The encasement of the lampwick (the middle part of the burner where the wick raises out) gets to hot. The consequence of this is an unstable or ever growing flame. To counter this take a piece of aluminum foil and wind it around the protuding part of the wicks downpipe.
